Revlon Colorstay Bonsai

Hey guys! I filed my nails way down the other day because we rearranged our living room and in the process I chipped a corner on two. I knew it was going to happen, it always does, although I am thankful that I haven't had too many breaks this winter.
Anyway, while I was out this weekend I picked up Revlon Bonsai, a gorgeous green with a yellow/gold shimmer. Pictures are three coats, my first coat was a little sheer but the second covered well but still looked to have a few thin spots so I went ahead and did three.
The Colorstay polishes are in a new bottle but I have to say I think I prefer the old ones. They were unique and you knew just by the bottle they were Revlon. At first glance I thought this was some other brand. Also, with this bottle there is only .4 oz instead of the regular .5 oz. It isn't a huge difference but the Colorstay polishes are more expensive for a slightly smaller amount, just something to think about.

Have you tried any of the Colorstay polishes? What do you think of this Revlon bottle shape?

  1. I actually like this bottle shape more than the classic Revlon (and the old ColorStay had a round shape so it made sense to me it would be different); these are more space efficient to store in my Helmers. For people who don't change their polish too often, these are a good value--the one I did a wear test on lasted and and lasted.

    1. I don't remember the old Colorstay polishes. I have heard these supposedly last forever on the nail. I'll have to try them out and see.

  2. I actually did four posts on the colorstay line and I have two more to do. Here in the US they are $8 a bottle vs. around $4 for regular Revlon. Revlon claims they can last 11 days without chipping, which I did not experience and I used the corresponding base and top coats. They are also suppose to be "gel" like, which to me they seem like regular nail polish, nothing special. Also, the top coat is really slow drying. And the brushes are double barrelled instead of single barrelled. (sp?)

    1. I was hoping to try the base and top coat with these but we didn't get them over here, maybe it was a good thing then.

  3. Very pretty green! I haven't tried any of the Colorstay polishes yet. I'm really tempted by this and the Rainforest one though =)

  4. I have quite a few of these new Revlon Colorstays and like them. I find the creams stay on longer than the ones like Bonsai with a non cream finish to them. I tired both the corresponding base and topper - nada - I do much better wear wise with my fav Orly Nail Armor Base and SV topper. Also I do another coat maybe on the 4th day of the color - and during the 9 days wear, I do about 3 new clear topper coats. You have to let each coat dry or they can end up getting dents/sheet marks. As far as the price - I got mine in several sales that are going on all the time at Walgreens - buy one get next 50% off and then a $1 off each bottle coupon event. Since most polish does not last 1 day on me, this line really helps me out...and I am not having thinning or peeling on my nails like I normally get from cheap to really expensive brands of polish. The colors are not outstanding yet. But this was just the start of the re-do of the line. I expect to see new ltd shades along the way. As far as less in the bottle - other companies are allowed to put 0.5 on their bottle and yet only have 0.4 in the bottle. There is a rounding up thing allowed by the labeling rules...so many polishes out there are the same amount. This one seems to be thicker polish formula so you might see you are going through a bottle faster due to that. I had my toes in Rainforest for St. Patty's with a green/sliver glitter over it to pop it out just for that night. I like the new bottle shape. Easy to hold on to/storage is good too.

    1. I will definitely have to try out the wear time on these and compare the shimmers to the cremes.

  5. I wasn't able to get this one but I would love to see how it compares to Zoya Midori. The base looks quite similar and that little bit of shimmer... so pretty! I do have a few of the new ColorStays but they're mostly neutrals. I've only tried one for a dupe comparison and I liked it (I also removed it immediately, so I can't judge the wear time.)

    1. I know, I was thinking about how they looked similar when I bought this one. I don't have Midori to compare but I'm curious to see them compared. I wish Zoya was easier to get a hold of over here!
